Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X is a flight simulator based on the Tom Clancy sci-fi world. These days, every game with the words Tom Clancy sells a lot, and easily. In this case, the game has little to nothing to do with the Tom Clancy world. You are given hints that you are indeed in the timeline portrayed in several other TC games, but that is it. You play an Air Force pilot who joins a private corporation to fight the evil enemies of the world. The cinematic sequences and the graphics are splendid all throughout. The controls are very easy-to-use, and they almost give the game an arcade look. Everything is so easy to do that one doesn't feel encouraged to keep playing. The game has a pretty solid single-player campaign, with several missions and several licensed planes. The action takes place around the globe, in cities like Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and regions like the Middle East, just to name a few. You get experience points by destroying targets and completing goals throughout the levels. You can use those points to purchase new planes and to buy new weapon systems for those planes. The action is intense and explosions are really fun to watch. In the hardest level of difficulty, there are some challenging dogfights, but anyone can complete levels. Shooting down enemies is as easy as keeping them in front of you and shooting your missiles, which almost never fail. Other than the fact that the game is not really related to the Tom Clancy world, this is a great fighter simulator and the explosive content is fun to watch and create. The Demo version of this game takes you on a couple of single player runs where you have to take down several aerial and ground objectives. You are given plenty of air-to-air missiles and your plane's load of ammunition to complete the objectives. The demo introduces the ERS path mechanism, which is an on-screen guiding system that helps you either avoid being hit by heat-sensing missiles or to get the perfect shot when approaching an enemy. The game is 49.99, but the demo version is up for grabs and should give you a pretty comprehensive look of what the game looks and feels like. |
